HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The Office of the State Surveyor General has been in existence since the inception of Lagos State in 1967. It started out as a “Survey Division” under the Ministry of Works and Planning. It was later moved to the Ministry of Economic Planning and Land Matters under Alhaji Lateef Kayode Jakande’s administration between 1979 to 1983. The nomenclature changed to the “Survey Department” under the Lands and Housing Ministry and subsequently renamed “Survey Directorate”, retaining this nomenclature through to the creation of Lands Bureau with the coming of the present civilian dispensation. It became a full-fledged office in 2005 under the Governor’s office and was then known as Office of the Surveyor General.

However, with the present dispensation  of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Lagos State Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode via the Executive Order No EO/AA01 of 17th June, 2015 where he recreated, abolished and realigned MDA’s as a strategy for effective service delivery and achieving reduction in the cost of Governance and creation of Opportunity for Global Competitiveness, The Executive Governor approved the retention of the office as full-fledged Agency with the new nomenclature: Office of the State Surveyor General (OSSG)
